The Elephant restaurant/bar has a great space on a raised sidewalk in Phu My Hung and offers a combination of Northern and Southern Vietnamese dishes as well as Western and Mexican dishes. One of their specialties is the many types of wraps on offer, including a lamb kebab wrap, and a pulled pork wrap. Their bar snacks are also worth a try, especially the hummus and tzatzki.
The outside terrace is a nice setting to catch up with friends, especially on a breezy evening. The inside though is a bit cramped, so the main draw is their outdoor seating area. Their drink selection has enough variety to keep everyone happy – a variety of local and imported beers, some nice wines, and some decent cocktails like their mojitos and margaritas.
The Elephant is also one of the few venues in District 7 that offers live music, starting at 7 on many evenings
Breakfast is popular here as well, served from 7:30-11am. Both Vietnamese and Western styles are available as well as smoothies and juices.
The bar scene is fairly limited in District 7 and while Elephant doesn’t hit all the marks it’s a nice place to stop in for a relaxing drink, to hear some live music, or have a decent bite to eat.
It’s a great place for
- bringing a group of friends
- bringing an out-of-towner
- watching people
