Described as ” industrial-chic” and “gastro-pub”, Urban Kitchen & Bar is located in a historic French colonial alley where other bars and restaurants are also hidden away. But it stands out with it’s retro-cozy atmosphere, elegant vibe, and soothing lighting. Right when you walk in you feel soothed by the brick, high-ceilings, low lighting, and steel touches. Even the music matches the overall retro mood.
It’s definitely more pricy than the other bars in this area but the food and ambiance are worth it. The long bar downstairs is great for pre-dinner drinks and snacks (like their delicious sweet potato fries, pork belly, or steamed soya beans) or after dinner cocktails.
The Urban Kitchen Slogan: “Come thirsty and leave happy”
The food is mostly North American while adding their own unique flair to everything. For the lighter side the Scallops salad and beetroot salad with ricotta are both delectable. And the bacon wrapped shrimp are as good as they sound. The pork should kimchi tacos a really nice blend and their signature Urban burger with sweet potato fries with chipotle aioli packs a good punch. The Sous Vide Steak with roasted marrow is packed with flavor. And their Sriracha mac and cheese is something that must be experienced to fully understand.
They really work hard to get the details just right, even on their pastas and burgers, which come with outstanding thick cut fries. The consistent quality and attentive service adds to it’s allure. The crowd is a mix of downtown professionals and tourists passing through. On weekends it gets a bit more “flashy” and DJs are often spinning.
Urban Kitchen & Bar has quaint tables for two that are perfect for a date, but also larger tables for groups or families in their large upstairs area. Serves lunch and brunch(10am-2pm) as well.
